Lady Hornets fall to Jackson State

Box Score The Alabama State University soccer team fell 3-1 to Jackson State at the Jackson State Soccer Complex Friday evening.

“Disappointing,” head coach Jodie Smith said. “We played poor all the way around. We didn't show up to play today. Our defensive back showed poor efforts today, and if we can't defend better than what we did today, then we are going to have problems the rest of the season. We just were not good in any facet of the game.”

The Lady Tigers (5-7-1 overall/ 2-0 SWAC) scored in the 12th and 16th minutes to open the first half of the contest.

The Lady Hornets (5-7-2/ 1-1) scored on a goal assisted by freshman defender Kaedi Walther to sophomore forward Alexandria Cannon in the 37th minute of the match.

Jackson State opened the second half scoring its third and final goal of the contest in the 50th minute, to cap the score at 3-1.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kylee Hathaway had seven saves on the day. JSU outshot ASU 14-4 in the contest.

Alabama State will be in action against the Southern Jaguars Sunday, October 21 at 2 p.m. in Baton Rouge.

“If we don't answer the bell and regroup, then we'll have the same results on Sunday against Southern,” said Smith.
