“Overall, I'm happy that we're in the tournament and getting the chance to finish what we've started here this season and accomplish our goal.”
The Lady Hornets (7-8-2 overall/2-2 SWAC) scored at the 17th minute mark of the contest when junior Iita Peinimaki knocked in a header, taking a 1-0 lead over the Lady Braves. The goal was assisted by sophomore

It was nice for Anastasia to get back on track for us,” said Smith. “She's been assisting the goals lately and now seeing her knocking in one before we get into tournament play was huge. With her, Alexandria, and India in the back for us, hopefully we can do big things as we foresaw bringing them all here.”

With the win, Alabama State advances to the Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament as the fourth seed in the Eastern Division beginning Thursday, November 1-4 in Alexandria, La. at the Johnny Downs Soccer Complex.
“Every game is going to be tough,” said Smith. Every team is on the road during tournament time and we haven't played that well on the road all season, so we'll see what happens. The girls are excited about the opportunity and I'm excited for them. We've had a great season so far and hopefully we can continue on throughout the tournament.”
