Track and Field Has Strong Outing at Coach O

Final Results

TROY—Alabama State University's track and field teams completed the regular outdoor season today at the Coach O Invite hosted by Troy University.

Breana Kelly's first place finish (2:13.43) in the women's 800 meter run highlighted an outstanding performance by the Lady Hornets as they also had 10 top-three finishes over the course of the day.

Tia Rolle had an outstanding day with a second place finish in the 100 meter dash (11.85) and a third-place finish (24.44) in the 200 meter dash.  She also ran the third leg on the 4x100 meter relay team who finished third crossing the finish line in 45.45.

Jerrica Mahone had a personal record of 55.98 in the 400 meter dash, finishing second.  Courtney Gooch finished second (4:45.50) in the 1500 meter run and Kesia Derilus had a third place finish in the 3000 meter steeplechase (11:19.41) and a fourth place finish in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:15.63.

Jahneel Tyrell had a second place finish in the long jump (5.75m) and was third in the triple jump (11.61m).

“We did pretty good out there today,” head coach Ritchie Beene said.  “We actually pulled back in some of the events toward the end because the team showed us what we needed to see.  We did not want to push some of them that were nursing injuries to far with the conference championships coming up.”

“It was good to see some very good performances and Jerrica Mahone, who is a freshman, set her personal record in the 400 meter.  She is getting better each time out.  Tia Rolle and Jahneel Tyrell also were strong and Kelly looked good in the 800.”

The men have shown improvement each time out this season, and although low in numbers, continued to show improvement in today's action.

Vincent Butler was second in the 400 meter dash (48.13) and the 4x100 meter relay team finished second with a time of 41.24.

Jeffery Adams ran a 14.72 in the 110 meter hurdles to finish fourth and Lee Thrasher had a fourth place finish in the discus throw with a throw of 43.64m.  He also finished sixth in the hammer throw with a toss of 44.91m.

“Our men did well today as well,” Beene said.  “Flores set a new personal record in the 800 meters (1:55.88) and Butler has turned into a solid 400 meter dash performer.  His time was also a personal record.”

“We still have to get our throwing events going, but I did see a lot of positives in that area in today's event.  Our results were positive and that was good to see.”

“It seems like we are starting to come together at the right time with the championship coming up next week.  We will work on fine tuning some problem areas this week and try to get both teams ready for another championship run.”
