TROY, Ala. – The Alabama State tennis teams fell to Troy State 7-0 on Monday in Troy, Alabama at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
“We didn't do so well on either side but I was happy to see Bobby play the way he did in singles today,” head coach
Anuk Christiansz said. “I do think we are getting better, but we have to be able to play more matches to get better in the season. We need to be more consistent and stay focused day in and day out. The guys are getting ready for the Southwestern Athletic Conference Championships and hopefully we can come back victorious.”
The Lady Hornets (1-11 overall, 1-5 SWAC) fell in their doubles matchups against the Trojans today.
Renita Rhone and
Shameka Williams took one set from Oifa Dhaoui and Samya El Hsissen, but were defeated 8-1 in the contest. The ASU women tennis team was shut down in its singles competition, losing 7-0 on the day.
The Hornets (4-9 overall, 3-3 SWAC) fought hard throughout their doubles matches, but fell short to Troy today.
Bobby Brand and
Lex Pierre were defeated 8-2 by Patrick Eichler and Anas Rouchdi. In the men singles competition, Brand and Rouchdi battled in four consecutive sets, going back and forth, but Rouchdi pulled out the win.
The Alabama State tennis teams will travel to Huntsville, Ala. to face the Bulldogs of Alabama A&M for the fourth time this season in an in-state showdown on the court. The matches are slated for 11 a.m. on Friday, April 13.
