ATLANTA, Ga. | Alabama State University captured the A Doubles championship at the 25th Annual HBCU National Tennis Tournament as Vid Maric and Gordan Mileusnic defeated Alcorn State's Vicent Llobell Buigues and Joseph Puig Mccallan, 6-2, in the championship match.
The Hornets finished fourth in the men's team standings with 49 points, trailing Alcorn State (63), Xavier University of Louisiana (58) and North Carolina Central (54).
Maric and Mileusnic, the No. 1 seed in the singles draw for Maric and No. 5 seed for Mileusnic, teamed up to claim the tournament's A Doubles championship. The Alabama State duo posted a 6-2 victory over Alcorn State's Llobell Buigues and Puig Mccallan in the title match.
Singles Results
Maric entered the singles tournament as the No. 1 seed and received a first-round bye. He fell to Jerry Christopher Brow Sal... in the Round of 16, 7-5, 6-3.
Maric then advanced to the consolation draw, where he faced VanDer Woody in the opening round. Woody recorded an 8-6 victory over Maric.
Mileusnic, the No. 5 seed, advanced through the opening round before falling to Edilson Rosa, 6-1, 6-2, in the Round of 16.
Mileusnic moved into the consolation bracket and faced Pol Puig Montiel. Puig Montiel earned an 8-1 victory in the consolation Round of 16.
