India Pleasant and sophomore goalkeeper
Kylee Hathaway soccer's offensive and defensive players of the week, Tuesday evening. Hathaway was also named College Sports Madness impact player of the week for her performance on the field this past weekend.
“It's a compliment to the start we've made so far this season,” Head coach
Jodie Smith stated. “It's nice to have them both recognized in the same week as the offensive and defensive players of the week. I'm very proud of all the ladies with the hard work my staff and I have seen from them so far and we hope that they can continue to get better as the season progresses.”
Pleasant, the Fontana, Calif. native scored the game-winning and only goal for ASU in its first win on the season over Tennessee-Chattanooga 1-0, Sunday at Findley Stadium. The goal was scored in the 62
nd minute off a free kick from sophomore
Alexandria Cannon.
The Pomona, Calif. native, Hathaway added seven key saves in the contest to capture her first shutout on the season. She was fired at 21 times on the day.
The Lady Hornets will be back in action Friday, August 31 when they travel to Orangeburg, S.C. to face the Francis Marion Patriots at 4 p.m. (CT) in the Sleep Inn Classic, hosted by South Carolina State.
