The Alabama State soccer team travels to face the Francis Marion Patriots in the Sleep Inn Classic Friday, August 31 at 4 p.m. (CT). The Classic is hosted by South Carolina State.
 
“We're looking forward to playing a good Francis Marion squad this weekend,” Head coach Jodie Smith stated. “We've never faced the Patriots before, but we know that they have a lot of quality players after scouting and looking over their previous stats. We know we need to play hard and stay focused for ninety minutes to come out with the victory on tomorrow.”
 
The Lady Hornets (1-1) captured their first win on the season this past weekend on the road with a 1-0 victory over UT Chattanooga. Junior forward India Pleasant scored her second goal on the season by knocking in the game-winning and only goal of the match off a free kick from sophomore Alexandria Cannon.
 
Sophomore goalkeeper Kylee Hathaway had seven key saves in the contest to grasp her first shutout on the season.
 
The Patriots (1-1-1) faced Campbell on last Friday, ending the match in a 1-1 tie in double overtime.
