The Alabama State University soccer team will open an eight-game home stand against Belmont on Friday, September 7 at 7 p.m.
“I think we had a very good practice today, trying not to tax the girls too hard after playing so many games over the last couple of days on the road,” head coach
Jodie Smith stated. “We are definitely excited to be playing at home in front of our fans this week.”
The Lady Hornets (1-4) have dropped three of their last four matches on the road, but look to turn things around here at home.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Kylee Hathaway had a very busy night on Tuesday in Mobile, against the University of South Alabama seeing a least 40 shots come her way, making eleven key saves. She held USA scoreless in the first half of play, but couldn't continue making the great stops in the second half as the Lady Jags scored two goals, capping the score at 2-0.
Sophomore forward
Alexandria Cannon leads the Southwestern Athletic Conference in shots attempted with (12) while junior forward
India Pleasant leads the conference in game-winning goals (1). Hathaway leads the SWAC in shutouts (1).
Belmont (3-2) fell to the University of Miami at Ohio 2-1 in its previous competition at home this past Sunday. The Lady Bruins are led by junior forward Katie Proud with four points, two goals, and three shots on goal.
“Like Troy and South Alabama, Belmont is a great team,” said Smith. “They are very organized and will be very aggressive around the goal. We know that we'll have to minimize our mistakes on the backend and try to play for 90 minutes strong.”
