“Well, we're a lot better than last year, but we expect to add a few more players as the season progresses to add a little more depth to the roster,” said Coach Christiansz. “This is the start of a new beginning for us, so I'm excited to see where this season takes us.”

With very little practice throughout the week, the Hornets look to have a rather promising season ahead of them after a having good off-season recruiting slate. Head Coach Anuk Christiansz and assistant coach Richard Seman picked up three new freshmen to help its team contend for a Southwestern Athletic Conference title in the 2013 season.

“We haven't had that much practice this spring, because of the rain and the team returning back to school late, but we're happy where we are right now,” said Christiansz.

Alabama State finished its 2012 season (5-11 overall, 3-4 SWAC) with a fairly inexperienced squad. The team fell to Alcorn in the semi-final round after defeating Jackson State in the opening round of the SWAC tournament.

Traveling with the team will be as follows: Bobby Brand; Julian Cseszko; Kenneth Haley; Lex Pierre; Jerred Thompson; Stefan Vojnic; and Roderick Williams.
