Box Score The Alabama State University soccer team defeated Mississippi Valley State 2-1 at the MVSU Soccer Complex Sunday.
"This was a great win for us, it's always good to start off conference play with wins" Head Coach
Jodie Smith said. "This was our first win against Valley since I've been here so that was a big thing. It was good to see the girls fight through the conditions of a wet field."
The first period was quiet with only 15 shots being taken with 9 by Mississippi Valley (1-11-1) and 6 by Alabama State (7-6).
The Lady Hornets saw a much better second half out shooting the Lady Devilettes 7-6.
Ariela Lewis scored two goals, the first coming in the 53rd minute off an assist from
Anastasia McCleary, the second in the 56 minute off an
Aaliyah Lewis assist. The Lady Devilettes scored their only goal off a Josee Primeau assist to Shanesse Spratt in the 60th minute.

Kylee Hathaway had six key saves in the contest.
Alabama State plays host to Southern University on Friday, October 11 at 7 p.m. at the ASU Soccer Complex.
