Track & Field Finalizes 2013-2014 Indoor Schedule

MONTGOMERY—Alabama State University track and field coach Ritchie Beene announces the 2013-2014 Indoor Track & Field Schedule.

Five of the team's indoor meets will be within the state of Alabama, beginning with the Birmingham Southern Icebreaker Invitational on December 6 in Birmingham.   The Icebreaker Invitational meet will be the lone meet before the holiday break for ASU.
 
Following the break the Hornets will travel back to Birmingham for the Blazer Invite meet January 10-11 hosted by UAB.  January 17- 19 ASU will participate in the Niswonger Invitational hosted by East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, TN. ASU will then travel for consecutive meets from Jan. 31- Feb. 2 they will travel first to the highly anticipated Indiana Relays meet in Bloomington, IN Jan.31-Feb.1 then, will head to Nashville, TN to compete at Tennessee State University on Feb. 2.

The Hornets will then finish out there indoor season with three consecutive meets at the Birmingham CrossPlex. First, in the Samford Multi Invitational on Feb.8th-Feb 9th hosted by Samford University.  ASU will then compete on Valentine's Day, Feb.14th in the Southern Miss Cupid Invitational hosted by Southern Mississippi in their regular season finale.
 
The Indoor SWAC Championship is slated for Feb.22nd- 23rd in the CrossPlex, where the women will be looking for a five-peat championship.    
 
"Every meet is important for us this season," said head coach Ritchie Beene.  "We have a young group this year, and we will be teaching a lot more, in order to help each athlete to develop their cognitive side of track & field."
 
"Our overall plan is to take it one meet at a time and hopefully build to a strong finish this season."
 
The Indoor season will conclude will the NCAA Indoor Championship set for March 8th-9th in Fayetteville, AK.
