The Alabama State University men's basketball season completed the non-conference portion of the schedule with a 93-68 win over Thomas University.

The Hornets had four players reach double figures led by DeMarcus Robinson with 17. ASU got a lot of scoring help off the bench as Billy Ingram scored a career-high 16 and Bobby Brown added another 13 bench points. Luther Page hit double digits for the second consecutive game chipping in with 10.

ASU had 21 assists in the game and Jamel Waters had 12 of those besting his previous record of 10. Waters has now recorded 32 assists in the last three games.

ASU (6-5) finished the game shooting 48 percent (35-73) from the field, but struggled from beyond the three point line as they only hit six of 23 attempts (26%).

"We have put an emphasis on sharing the ball this year because we have some guys that can do some things in terms of scoring," Head Coach Lewis Jackson said. "Jamel has done a tremendous job of getting the ball to the people we want taking shots. If we can keep him up there in the assist category that means we are scoring a little bit so hopefully that will continue to happen."

"We do have a few guys that can do some things offensively, but offense is a fickled thing with shots and missed shots, but right now we are doing pretty well offensively."

The Hornets also had a good game on the boards out rebounding Thomas 55-32. Maurice Strong set a career-high with 15 rebounds. Page and Brown both added nine each.

The Nighthawks had three players in double figures with Fare'al Walker's 17 leading the way. All of his points came in the first half as the Hornets did a better job and held him scoreless in the second half. Trey Gosier scored 12 for the Nighthawks and Max Grace had 10.

Thomas shot 41 percent (26-64) from the field and hit four of their 12 three point attempts for 33 percent.

"It seemed like we were kind of lethargic out there in the first half and going in slow motion," Jackson said. "They were the aggressor and they were making some things happen. We gave up more points in the paint to them than we have to a lot of teams that are much bigger, but we came out the second half and played a little better. Playing against five guards is tough for us and it was hard to keep them out of the lane.

ASU took a 43-30 lead into the locker room led by Robinson and Waters who had nine points each. ASU shot 55 percent (17-31) from the field.

The Hornets out rebounded the visitors 24-10 as Strong led that effort with six.

Walker went into the locker room with 17 points for Thomas as he hit eight of his 10 field goals. Gosier had nine points as he and Walker teamed for 26 of the team's 30 first-half points. The visitors shot 42 percent (14-33) from the field.

"The first half of the season has been pretty good," Jackson said. "We finished up 6-5 and that's pretty good for us at this time of the year. The guys are still trying to find themselves. We've had some games where we played really well and we've had some games where we didn't play well. So we are trying to find that even keel where we are steady defensive and try to make some things happen on offense."

"Overall I think it was a good first half but now we are getting ready to go into this second part of the season with conference play and hopefully we can fare pretty well in it."

The Hornets will hit the road to begin conference action this weekend when they travel to Louisiana to play Grambling State Saturday, Jan. 4 at 7:30 p.m.
