On a very busy weekend for the Hornets Nation, the Alabama State Men's and Women's tennis team will host Jacksonville State on Friday, February 15 at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center. First match is slated for 10:30 a.m.
“Tomorrow, we'll have two good competitive teams matchup on both the men's and women's side,” Head Coach
Anuk Christiansz said. “I'm looking forward to both matches to springboard us to our conference round-up next week. I think it'll be really good practice for the guys, playing these types of matches against great teams like Jacksonville State.”
The Hornets (2-2 overall) are coming off a 6-1 loss in Tallahassee, Fla. to the Florida A&M Rattlers last Friday afternoon.
Julian Cseszko picked up the lone singles win over FAMU's Temuera Asafu-Adjaye to collect the point for ASU.
“The guys competed well the last time out,” said Christiansz. “I'm just looking forward to them playing again actually. They can get reorganized and be ready for tomorrow. Our team is very young and all the teams we play are experienced, but we're looking to get better as the season continues.”
The Lady Hornets (0-4 overall) had one of their best performances on Wednesday morning, but were defeated by Auburn 7-0. The No. 60 ranked Lady Tigers showed why they were ranked in the Top 100 programs in the nation, but ASU didn't back down from the challenge.
“I think it will help our top three ladies for sure, having played Auburn yesterday,” said Christiansz. “Great matches only help prepare us for the next ones ahead. We don't have enough depth on the girls side, so that hurts, but I think it was a good step for the program.”
The Alabama State Women's team is 0-5, while the men's team is 0-6 versus Jacksonville State dated back to the 2010 season.
