The Alabama State women's and men's tennis teams lost to Jacksonville State Friday afternoon at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center.
The women's team was swept 7-0, while the men's team fell 6-1.
Bobby Brand rallied for a thrilling victory in No. 1 singles, 4-6, 6-2, 11-9 to win for ASU.
“It was good for our number one singles player to win,” head coach
Anuk Christiansz said of Brand. “It's good momentum, and a good confidence builder for him and the rest of the team. We are slowly making progress overall, but we are still making fundamental errors that cost us vital points. However, I feel like we are competing well. We are battling in the matches, but coming up a little bit short.”
Both the women's and men's team will be back in action Saturday afternoon at home against Kennesaw State at 2 p.m.
“It's another great match; these tough matches are helping us,” Christiansz said of facing the Owls. “I like playing tough matches and I want to play tough matches. I don't want to play teams that we will have an easy win against. In the long run, these tough matches will make both of our teams better. The future is good.”
