The Alabama State Men's and Women's tennis teams will play host to the Sun Belt Conference's Troy Trojans Friday, March 8 at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center. Matches are set to begin at 10 a.m.

“We are looking forward to a good match for the guys and girls against Troy,” Head Coach
Anuk Christiansz said. “They are a very established team. They have made some tremendous improvements recruiting and bringing in some high profile players, so they should be better than last year. We are in some ways much better than last year ourselves.”

“For us, all these matches help us grow as a team and improve individually. We are a little short on the men's and women's side, but having the experience playing against these bigger schools will help us progress for the future.”

The Lady Hornets (2-8 overall) were downed by the Prairie View A&M Panthers 4-2 during the Southwestern Athletic Conference West Roundup in Baton Rouge on February 23
rd. ASU won two of its four matches during the roundup, once over the University of Arkansas Pine-Bluff (4-3) and once over Grambling State (4-2). It was the Lady Hornets first back-to-back wins this season.

The Hornets (4-6 overall) have won two of its past four matches, last versus Arkansas Pine-Bluff, 7-0.
Roderick Williams and Juilian Cseszko were the only team to pick up a win in doubles competition. Cseszko,
Bobby Brand, and
Stefan Vojnic were the only Hornets to capture a victory in singles during the effort.

“Bobby is one of our better players,” said Christiansz. “He has to match up against the best player from each school we play, so it's tough for him being at number one. Juilian is coming into his own and will continue to grow and get better as his years progress.”

The Trojans hold a 3-6 record, while the women's tennis team brings a 7-4 record into Friday's contest.
