The Alabama State University soccer team suffered a 5-0 loss to Presbyterian College Sunday afternoon at the ASU Soccer Complex.
"Injuries are starting to catch up with us and we're just not as deep as we thought we were just not a good outing today for us." Said Head Coach Jodie Smith.
The Blue Hose (3-2) scored in the 10th minute of the contest, when Middle Kelly Kozera knocked in an unassisted chip shot. Middle Brittany Whitson added a second goal for Presbyterian in the 24th minute off a penalty kick. The Blue Hose outshot the Lady Hornets 13-6.
In the second half, the Blue Hose continued their offensive presence out-shooting the Hornets 12-5.Tori Lopez scored the first goal of the 2nd period in the 53rd minute to make it a 3-0 game in favor of the Blue Hose. In the 72nd minute Sara Simpson scored a goal to push their lead against the Hornets to 4-0. Emily Boggus added a final dagger to the Hornets as she scored in the 89th minute pushing the final score to 5-0 in favor of the Blue Hose.
The highlight of today's match was junior goalkeeper Kylee Hathaway getting 11 saves.
"We plan to go back to the drawing board on defense again, I thought we kind of found some things early in the season but some cracks are starting to get through the wall." Coach Smith said.
The Lady Hornets will be back in action next Sunday, September 22 at 1p.m. vs. USC-Beaufort at the ASU Soccer Complex.
