Box Score Jacksonville, Ala.- The Alabama State soccer team falls to the Jacksonville State Gamecocks in double overtime
Friday night in Jacksonville, Ala. at the JSU Soccer Complex.
Early in the first half Alabama State (3-6) showed great poise as the Jacksonville State (4-3-1) Gamecocks were all over the field. The Lady Hornets out smarted the Gamecocks and started using unexpected personal who made big plays when needed.
The first half saw Alabama State's freshmen forward
Aaliyah Lewis score her third goal of the season in the 31st minute. The Gamecocks didn't take anytime answering back with their own goal in the 34th minute when Kristen Hoo scored off a cross from Nicola Dominikovich. The Gamecocks outshot the Hornets 21-4.
In the second half of play it was a hard fought battle, no goals were scored but the Gamecocks once again outshot the Hornets 12-7.
After a quiet uneventful first overtime the Hornets and Gamecocks came out fighting in the second over time of play Katt Dowd ended the game in the 108th minute with a unassisted shot that sailed over Courtney Ledonne's head.
"This is a hard loss to take after we battled so hard for so long. The girls showed a lot of character and heart to battle the way that they did." head coach
Jodie Smith said. "If we can take this as a learning experience and grow from this we should be fine going in to Sunday's match."
Alabama State's junior goalkeeper
Kylee Hathaway had 4 saves in the match seeing only 45 minutes of play. Courtney Ledonne finished the rest of the game seeing 65 minutes of action with 8 saves.
Alabama State will be back in action when they return home to face USC-Beaufort on
Sunday, September 22nd at the ASU Soccer Complex at
1p.m.
