The men started the match in doubles playing well but losing the doubles point.  ASU's Takura Mlambo and Divijay Narvka defeated Juan Troglia and German Gruindelingh in two doubles, but USA won at one and three doubles to take the point.
 
USA won five of the six singles matches with Dylan Cleary winning ASU's point at six singles with a 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-7) win.  The Hornets were in every match falling at one and five singles in third set tie-breaks while ASU played tough at two, three and four.
 
"The men competed really, really well today," Head Coach Anuk Christiansz said.  "They are improving every week and have made a lot of progress."
 
"We are going to spend this week working on closing out matches.  We had chances in every singles match and I think our youth shows in some of those situations, but I am happy with how they are playing and they are showing more and more confidence on the court."
 
Even though the women were shut out in action against South Alabama's women, it was not all negative as far as the coaching staff could see.
 
"The score of the women's match is not indicative of how well they competed against a very good South Alabama team," Christiansz said.  "They are making great strides through the first two matches and I can already see a big improvement over last season."
 
The men and women will be back in action Friday, Jan. 31 when they travel to Macon, Ga., to face Mercer at 12:30 p.m.
