Tennis Will Play at Mercer Despite Weather

Both Tennis Teams will Face Mercer Friday at 12:30 p.m.
The weather has not been conducive to playing outdoor tennis, but that will not stop the Hornets when they travel to Macon, Ga., to face Mercer University in men's and women's tennis. The matches are set for Friday, Jan. 31 and will begin at 12:30 p.m. (CT).

The weather has been the big story in Montgomery this week hampering the Hornets practice scheduled, but the weather has also been tough around the Atlanta area, which Macon is.

"We haven't practiced in three days because of the weather so today we need to get a good practice in before we play Mercer tomorrow," Head Coach Anuk Christiansz said. "Not getting practices in this week does bother me, but I feel a little better since we are going to get a good practice in today."

"We have missed a lot of practice so we need to get a little motivated and get into match mode today to be ready tomorrow."

The Hornets and Lady Hornets both enter Friday's match with 0-2 records and those records are not indicative of how competitive they have been.

The Bears have already played eight matches early in the season and will enter the match with a 1-7 record with their lone coming over Florida A&M. The women's program at Mercer enters the match with a 0-2 record.

ASU is coming off a loss at South Alabama, but both teams had a lot of chances to finish matches with a win and could not close out the match. It is something the ASU coaching staff has taken note of heading into tomorrow's matches.

"I want us to keep the intensity level up and there were some matches that we could have closed last Sunday and we didn't," Christiansz said. "Those are things we need to get better at and as the team gets older and more experience I think that is going to help us become a stronger team. When we get those chances we must close out those matches."
