Kylee Hathaway,
Alexandria Cannon,
Iita Pienimaki and
Malinda Smith will be honored in a special pre-game senior tribute at 6:45 p.m. that will precede the Alabama State women's soccer game against Alabama A&M on senior night Friday at 7 p.m.Â
Â
It will be the final home match of the 2014 season for ASU.Â
Â
On the field, the Lady Hornets (9-9 overall, 6-3 SWAC) have positioned themselves to lock up the No. 3 seed for the upcoming SWAC Tournament if they can pick up a win.Â
Â
Texas Southern (5-2-2 SWAC) is right behind Alabama State in the standings and is currently the No. 4 seed. Texas Southern plays at Prairie View A&M (7-1-1 SWAC) on Friday at 7 p.m. A loss by Texas Southern would also ensure that ASU clinches the No. 3 seed.Â
Â
If the current standings hold, Alabama State would play No. 6 seed Southern (4-3-2 SWAC) in the first round of the SWAC Tournament in Huntsville on Thursday, Nov. 6.Â
Â
No team in the SWAC comes into play hotter than ASU. During Alabama State's current six-match winning streak, the Lady Hornets have outscored opponents 26-3.Â
Â
Offensively, ASU is on an entirely different level than it was earlier this season. After averaging just 0.66 goals per game in the opening 12 games of the season, ASU has averaged 4.3 goals per contest during its' last six games.Â
Â
Aaliyah Lewis is coming off the heels of another dominating week in which she tallied three goals and five assists in victories against Mississippi Valley State and Alcorn State. For that, she picked up her third SWAC Offensive Player of the Week honors.Â
Â
For the Lady Bulldogs, sophomore Andrea Chacon received co-defensive student-athlete of the week honors. Last week, she recorded her second goal of the season in a 6-1 routing of Alcorn State University.
Â
In 270 minutes of action, Chacon recorded five shots, three shots on goal, one goal, one assist and three points from the defensive position. As the leader of the A&M defensive unit, Chacon directs traffic, organizes and initiates the offensive attack, and manages to be an offensive threat.
Â
The Lady Bulldogs (3-11-4 overall, 3-3-3 SWAC) are still fighting for a higher playoff seeding in the SWAC Tournament. A&M can finish anywhere between the No. 5 and the No. 8 seed depends upon Friday's results.Â
