Women's Basketball Set To Face Troy, 2 p.m. Game Time Change

With the new time change of a 2 p.m. tipoff the Alabama State Basketball team will face Troy at Trojan Arena in Troy.

Troy (3-3) is coming off a 76-67 win over Samford that was played at Troy nine days ago.  Both teams should be coming into Saturday's game freshly renewed.  ASU (2-3) has been off for five days after they dropped a 93-54 loss to Western Kentucky.

The Lady Hornets hold a 15-10 overall series lead against the Trojans.  The last time the two teams met was at the Dome last season with ASU falling to a 77-67 decision. This will only be the second time that ASU has played in the newly built Trojan arena.

"Troy has always been a very competitive to play against," said head coach Freda Freeman-Jackson.  "We are most definitely going to have to stay a step ahead of them the whole game and keep them from getting ahead of us."

Sophomore Britney Wright has been leading the Lady Hornets in scoring (13.8).   She is followed by the recently graduated (12/12/14) Jasmine Peeples, who is averaging 8.6 points per game and leading the team on the boards averaging 9.0.  The squad as a whole leads the league in scoring offense (63.2), scoring margin (68.6), rebounding offense (44.4), block shots (21), defensive rebounding (28.6) and offensive rebounding pct. (.371). is averaging 62.4 points.

Troy has two players in double figures leading the team in scoring.  Ronita Garrett is the top player for the Trojans averaging 14.3 points per game, while Ashley Beverly-Kelley is averaging 13.5 points.  Garrett also leads the team in rebounding averaging 10.2.

"I told the girls that each game means a different challenge, so we must figure out how we can stop this team from winning.  Troy is most definitely a talented team and we really have our work cut out for us, but if we do what we are supposed to do on the defensive end, we should be in pretty good shape.  We are going to have to just find a way to win.   Although we are playing in their place we need to just allow them one possession basketball."

Fans can watch live and find more information about the game at bamastatesports.com basketball game day central.  In game updates will also be available on the official twitter and facebook accounts of the athletics program, twitter/ASUbuzz or on facebook/ASUbuzz.
