Women's Hoops Remains Undefeated At Home

The Alabama State women's basketball team secured a 82-73 win over the Bluefield State College Monday night, at the Dunn Oliver Acadome.
 
Britney Wright had a stellar game as she scored a team high 20 points shooting 9-13 (69%) for the entire game.  Jasmine Peeples extended her streak of scoring 10+ to three consecutive games as she finished with a career high 19 points and two rebounds.  
 
"Wright really stepped up today and showed she can play, she was cautious in the first half due to a minor injury but, she came back in the second half and did a much better job to finish the game." said head coach Freda Freeman- Jackson.
 
"I thought it was a game where we started off sluggish towards the end of the first half," Freeman-Jackson said. "In the second half we picked up the tempo playing more pressing basketball which shifted the game into our favor."
 
Tabitha Bradshaw finished with a game high six assists adding nine points of her own and teammate Daniele Ewert led the way with eight rebounds along with eight points.   
 
In the first half the Lady Hornets came out shooting 14-27 (51.9%). Jasmine Peeples led the Lady Hornets in the half with 11 points and two rebounds. Alabama State's defense held the Lady Rams to just 43% from the field. Wright added seven points before halftime as she shot 75% from the field.
 
ASU came out of the locker room on fire as Wright and company outscored BSU 13-5 in the first five minutes to take full control of the game. The Lady Hornets would then dominate the rest of the second half as they outscored the Lady Blues 43-39, finishing the game shooting 54.4%. Defensively ASU held the Lady Blues to just 42% from the field.
 
Shakima Wiggins of the Lady Blues scored a game high of 22 points over all players.
 
Alabama State will travel to Georgia Tech for a 6 p.m. matchup Wednesday, December 17th and then will play host to the University of Mobile Friday, December 19th at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome. The contest is slated for 5 p.m.
