BIRMINGHAM—The Alabama State University track and field teams completed their opening weekend of the indoor season at the Birmingham Southern Icebreaker with 15 top 10 finishes.

Throwers
Mia Mike (14.80m) and
Janelle Graham (14.59m) got things off for ASU with ninth and tenth place finishes in the women's weight throw. The duo also, had strong marks in the shot put event as Graham (12.43m) took sixth and Mike (11.46m) finished ninth overall. Desiree Horn added an eighth place finish in the women's long jump with a leap of 5.28m (17-04.00).

Alexis Ferebee had a stellar opening day as she placed second 60m (7.67) and third in the 200m (24.79).

Fresh off an impressive cross country season the Lady Hornet mid-distance squad had a great day on the track.
Santina Williams surged to a first place finish in the 400 meters running a 56.45 and teammate
Kimberly Wedderburn took third in the same event in 57.87.

Shantia Wilson took sixth in the mile crossing the line in 5:19.38 and in the 800m run
Tatiana Etienne (2:12.43) placed second,
Jerrica Mahone (2:20.36) finished fourth, and Brandee Ebert (2:21.05) in sixth place to round out the field for the Hornets.Â

In the meet's final event, the Lady Hornets 4x400m relay "A" team finished first with a time of 3:46.82 and the "B" took fourth in a time of 3:55.12.

"I am very proud of how our athletes performed in their first meet of the season," Head Coach
Ritchie Beene said. "We had a chance to see a lot of our athletes perform to the best of their abilities. We as a staff will meet and look back on what we need to improve on heading into the break and the rest of our season."

ASU will now be off for Christmas Break and will return to action on Jan. 9-10 at the UAB Blazer Invitational in Birmingham, Ala.
