Tennis Teams Fall To Rattlers

The Alabama State men's and women's tennis teams both lost to Florida A&M Saturday at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center.

It was a tough day for the Hornets and Lady Hornets, who combined to win just two sets during the match.

In men's singles, number one player Dylan Cleary lost a tough three-setter to Florida A&M's Zack Evenden, 6-3, 3-6, 10-8. In women's singles, number five player Irina Cvijovic, who won her match on Friday, played well but lost 6-2, 3-6, 10-7 to Elysia Ortiz.

In women's number two singles, Pauline Denis battled tough in losing to Symone Townsend 6-4, 7-5 in the final match of the day. In women's number one doubles, Arantxia Wijngaarde and Nathalie Lorenco battled in losing 8-6 to Thompson and Ortiz.

"I was real disappointed," head coach Anuk Christiansz said. "On the guys side, I felt like we should have won the doubles point. In singles, they were better than us. They are a solid team. The ladies competed well. They played a much better match than yesterday. We have one more tomorrow, and let's see how we perform."

Both Alabama State tennis teams will close out the long homestand Sunday against Kennesaw State at 2 p.m.
