Hornets Looking to Get Back on Track

Hornets get in some practice at Prairie View A&M
The Alabama State University men's basketball team is looking for a win after falling into a tie for second place in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) with only three games left.

ASU (15-11/9-6 SWAC) has dropped its past two games and four of the past five and will face Prairie View A&M (8-19/6-9 SWAC) Monday, March 3 at 7:30 p.m. in their final regular season road game.

"It all starts with defense," Head Coach Lewis Jackson said.  "We have given up over 80 points in the past three games and we were lucky to actually win one of those.  We are going to look for players who want to play some defense and we may have to shake up the line up to find that."

The Hornets have had the same starting five for all 26 games this season, but with the team struggling on both the offensive and defensive end of the court may change.

"We have got to get off to a faster start not only on defense but offense as well," Jackson said.  "A lineup change may be the thing that will give us a jump start."

ASU will have to face a PVAMU team that needs a win like the Hornets.  They have dropped four consecutive games and seven of its past nine.

The Panthers do have the SWAC's fourth leading scorer in Montreal Scott who is averaging 15.1 points per game.  The Panthers have four players averaging in double digits as John Brisco (12.2), Demondre Chapman (12.1) and Louis Monks (10.0) also average 10 or more points per game.

ASU has seen their scoring drop significantly but Jamel Waters (14.3) and DeMarcus Robinson (11.9) continue to average in double figures.

Bobby Brown (9.2) and Brandon Graham (9.1) continue to average over nine points per game while Maurice Strong Averages 8.6 and a team-high 6.6 rebounds per game.

The game can be heard live on WVAS FM 90.7.
