Tennis Travels to A&M

The Alabama State tennis teams have not played since the final SWAC Round Up  on March 30 but will be back in action Friday, April 11 at Alabama A&M.  The matches are non-conference match-ups and are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.

With the conference tournament right around the corner the Hornets need to get in plenty of court time which has been extremely difficult due to the weather and sickness over the past two weeks.

"The weather has been rough, but more than that on the guy's side was all the flu that was going through the team," Head Coach Anuk Christiansz said.  "They just were not feeling well at all for about two weeks after the last match we had at the conference round Up."

"On the girl's side we still have a few nagging injuries and we don't have the depth we need on the girl's side so that adds to it.  Finally the weather did break and we have been able to get both teams back out and working hard.  We have A&M tomorrow (Friday) and we are looking forward to having a match."

Both teams are looking to extend the program's best seasons in recent memory as the men have already matched their six wins from a season ago and has locked up the second place seeding in the SWAC Tennis Tournament which begins April 25.

The Lady Hornets have eight wins which is the most wins in the program in over five years.  They also have picked up the fifth seed in the SWAC Tournament.

"We really need to get some matches in right here before the tournament," Christiansz said.  "We want to stay competitive and of course picking up a win over a rival means a lot."

"We still have a few more weeks to go and I keep reminding the teams we have those weeks and we can either move forward or go backwards."

ASU has been able to add one more home match to its schedule when it plays host to Alabama-Huntsville Wednesday April 16 at 1 p.m.  It will be the final home match for three seniors as ASU will hold Senior Day for Dylan Cleary of the men's team and Melissa Telfer and Pauline Denis from the women's team.
