Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Bama State falls to Presbyterian on road

For the opening 65 minutes of play, it appeared that the Alabama State women's soccer team was on the verge of a quality nonconference road victory against Presbyterian College.

But the Blue Hose of the Big South Conference were able to string together a blitz of goals during a 14-minute span in the second half to rally by the Lady Hornets 5-1 on Sunday afternoon in Clinton, S.C.

A first half goal in the 43rd minute by Lady Hornets' sophomore striker Aaliyah Lewis gave ASU the early advantage when the Anchorage, Alaska native was able to score outside from 18 yards on an assist from senior Iita Pienimaki.

Lewis has shown no signs of slowing down from her welcoming freshman campaign in which she tallied 21 goals and garnered both All-SWAC and College Sports Madness Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and First Team recognition.  She now has three goals on the 2014 slate.

For Pienimaki, it marks the first assist on the season for the Jyvaskyla, Finland native.

ASU senior goalkeeper Kylee Hathaway was working another clean sheet well into the second half, but the Blue Hose (2-2) continued to turn up the pressure.  Presbyterian outshot ASU 27-9 and 14-4 for shots on goals.  Hathaway finished with nine saves.

The Lady Hornets (3-3 overall, 2-3 on the road) will wrap up its three-game road swing with a visit to Georgia Southern on Friday at 1:30 p.m. in Statesboro.

Alabama State will return home to take on Jacksonville State on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the ASU Soccer Complex.
