Alabama State University's tennis team's will hit the road again this weekend when they travel to Statesboro, Ga., to face Georgia Southern Sunday, Jan. 25.  The Hornets will begin the action at 10 a.m. with the women's match set to start at noon at the Wallis Tennis Center on GSU's campus.

After starting the season at Mississippi State, ASU has been on the court working on some shortcomings they had in the opening match of the season.

"In singles I am looking at getting some of the players to come into the net more," Head Coach Anuk Christiansz said.  "We need to be a little more aggressive on the transition game.

The Hornets are also working on their strategy in doubles play with the different format of the games.  Beginning this season a doubles team only needs to win six points instead of the nine points teams used to need.

"We have to come out hotter in doubles play," Christansz said.  "We have to get a good start since they have shortened the format.  Things will happen fast and we have to get a better start."

"Our players competed hard against Mississippi State, both the guys and the girls, but we just have to get started a little quicker.  There is also no add now, at deuce you play it out.  So you have to be mentally tough and you have to be at the top of your game.   We have to be very alert and when you have an opportunity you have to strike.  You may not get that chance again."

Both teams sport 0-1 records after battling SEC-member Bulldogs last weekend.  Georgia Southern men's team fell 6-1 to ACC-member top open their season while the match will be the season-opener for the GSU women's team.
