MONTGOMERY – It's almost here, the 92nd Annual Turkey Day Classic and this year the Hornets will face a hot Miles College team.
Miles comes into Montgomery riding a six-game winning streak that was made even more impressive when they defeated defending SIAC Champion Tuskegee and followed that up with a 20-7 win in the SIAC Championship over Albany State.
These two teams have met 21 times on the field with the Hornets holding a 20-0-1 lead in the series. The last time these two teams met was back in 2002, a 27-6 ASU victory.
ASU is 38-50-3 in Turkey Day Classic games and has won the past two games and three of the past four. This is the first time they have played Miles College in the Classic.
The Golden Bears defense is their strong point having one of the top defenses in all of NCAA Division II football. They have only allowed 181 points all season which is 16.5 points per game. They only allow 155.7 yards per game rushing and 143.8 yards passing per game which is less than 300 yards per game.
Miles (7-4) offense averages 21.2 yards per game and most of their damage is done on the ground. Jamarcus Nance leads Miles with 737 rushing yards this season as Miles averages 181.4 yards per game. David Whipple has 572 yards rushing and Justin Hardy has rushed for 214 yards.
The Hornets (5-5) fell last week to Prairie View but has still won three of its past four games. The Hornets offense will be put to the test trying to move the ball against Miles nationally-ranked defense.
ASU is averaging just over 25 points per game and has been fairly even in terms of moving the ball by pass or run. ASU is rushing for 171.8 yards per game while throwing the ball for 191.3 yards per game.
Khalid Thomas continues to lead the team in rushing with 642 yards.
Daniel Duhart seems to have bounced back from an early season injury which caused him to miss three games. He has completed over 64 percent of his passes for 1,027 yards and seven touchdowns.
ASU's defense will have to step up to stop the strong Golden Bears rushing attack.
Kourtney Berry will lead the defense with his 120 tackles. He is looking to break his own single season tackle record of 128 total stops he set last season.
He is getting plenty of help from
Bradley Street who has 77 stops and fellow linebacker
Daerius Washington who has 73. ASU's defense is second in the SWAC in scoring defense and second in rushing defense.
Before the game the Hornets will honor 10 seniors who will be making their final appearance for the Hornets. They are;
Shawan Parks (Montgomery),
Lawrence Oliver (Chicago, Ill.),
Stanley Robinson (Montgomery),
Ephraim Henderson (Brookhaven, Miss.),
Robert Roquemore (Covington, Ga.),
Antonio Humphreys (Montgomery),
Damian Love (Millbrook),
DeMario Bell (Wetumpka),
Daerius Washington (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and

The game is set to kick off at 3 p.m. and can be heard live on the ASU Hornets Sports Network.
