Britney Wright scored a game-high 24 points—including 8-for-8 from the free throw line—and had 13 rebounds while Jasmine Peeples collected 11 points, 14 rebounds and four blocks as the Alabama State women's basketball team downed Alabama A&M 64-52 on Saturday at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.
 
The Lady Hornets (12-10 overall, 8-4 SWAC) were clutch from the free throw line down the stretch as the team made 26-of-32 (81 percent) from the stripe.
 
The Lady Bulldogs (6-17, 5-7 SWAC) last led 6-5 with 12:32 remaining in the first half.
 
The teams were tied at 16 with 7:08 left in the first half, but the Lady Hornets closed out the half with a 16-8 run to go into halftime with a 32-24 advantage. 
 
During the spurt, Ashanti Spencer made four free throws, Peeples and Miracle Mayo each hit a jumper, Wright made two layups, Durriya Shields-Sampson knocked down a 3-pointer while Shamyiah Smith split a pair from the line.
 
Spencer finished with 11 points off the bench in 14 minutes of action.    
 
Brittney Strickland led the Lady Bulldogs with 20 points and Janie Myles had 16 points and 11 rebounds. 
 
Alabama State will next play at Alcorn State on Saturday at 3 p.m.
