Box Score   -Montgomery    The Alabama State women's basketball team suffered a tough home loss to the Lady Tigers of Texas Southern University by the final score of 64-51 at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome Saturday afternoon.
Daniele Ewert led the Lady Hornets with 13 points and seven boards.
Britney Wright added 13 points of her own along with five rebounds and three blocks.
Jasmine Peeples added 8 points, 10 rebounds in the outing for ASU.
"We didn't play consistent basketball tonight," said head coach
Freda Freeman-Jackson. "We started off slow and showed some toughness pulling within two points at halftime; only to start off slow again in the second half, which is something you cannot do against a team like Texas Southern."
The Tigers improved to 17-9 overall and 14-1 in the SWAC with the victory, while Alabama State fell to 12-13 overall and 8-7 in the SWAC.
The Lady Hornets struggled to find a rhythm on the offensive side of the ball throughout the game. ASU managed to shoot just 8-30 (26.7%) in the first half and shot 17-52 (32.7%) for the entire game
TSU managed to have two players to finish in double figures led by a game-high 21 points from Diamonisha Sophus and 16 points, 13 rebounds performance from Alexus Johnson.
Texas Southern caught the Lady Hornets defense in a daze early as they erupted to a 21-10 lead in the first half, that large deficit did not defer ASU as they began to battle back with an aggressive 13-2 run over the next 8 minutes tying the contest at 23-23. TSU would then outscore ASU 4-2 in the final three minutes to take a slim 27-25 lead into halftime.
The Lady Hornets will compete in their final home game as they are set to face the Panthers of Prairie View A&M University on Greek Night with a 5:30 p.m. start time in the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.
