The Lady Hornets (10-10, 6-4 SWAC) is coming off of a 62-54 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff and will be looking to continue their two-game win streak. Last time Mississippi Valley (3-18, 1-9 SWAC) and ASU met, the Lady Hornets outlasted Valley with a 62-45 win in Greenwood, Miss., earlier this season.Â
Â
"Valley is a team that you must make sure that you keep in front of you and play defense all the way through, said head coach
Freda Freeman-Jackson. "We are going to have be a lot more attentive with Valley than we were with Pine Bluff. They play similar type of ball, and they are good with taking backdoor routes and are quick to get to the basket."
Â
The Devilettes have two players averaging double figures. The scoring charge is led in scoring by Christina Reed who is averaging 11.7 ppg and Ashley Beals who averages 11.6 points per contest
Â
"Valley is a good solid team. They just haven't much luck in the win column and we are not trying to assist them with thatÂ
tomorrow," Freeman-Jackson said. "They are quick and can get up and down the court. We have to be able to contain them as a team since they have so many different scorers. Reed gave us a few problems in our last match up, but fortunately we were able to slow her down."
Â
Alabama State's sophomore
Britney Wright still holds the team down in scoring averaging 15.5 ppg, while
Jasmine Peeples leads the team in rebounding averaging 10.2 rpg. Peeples is second on the team in scoring averaging 11.5.
Â
"These two young ladies have been working very hard and they have shown it in our last few games," Freeman-Jackson stated. "I am extremely proud of these ladies as well as the rest of the team. They have all contributed to what we are trying to accomplish."
