LORMAN, Miss. –
Hunter McIntosh pitched six strong innings and P.J. Biocic and Gustav Rios each homered as Alabama State baseball completed a three-game sweep with a 12-1 seven-inning win at Alcorn State.
McIntosh fanned a career high eight hitters, allowing five hits and one run with no walks, while Biocic and Rios each hit their first career homers as the Hornets (10-6 overall, 5-1 SWAC) won their fifth straight game.
"Hunter pitched very well today," Alabama State head coach
Mervyl Melendez said. "He threw a lot of strikes and was able to throw all his pitches for strikes."
Multiple runs in each of the first three innings set the tone for Alabama State.
Cesar Rivera led off with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. After a fielder's choice grounder and a walk to load the bases,
Hunter Allen's two-run single scored Rivera and
Chris Biocic.
Ray Hernandez followed with a double, scoring P.J. Harris for a 3-0 Hornet lead.
In the second, P.J. Biocic singled and scored on
Waldyvan Estrada's double. Three consecutive walks, the last to Allen, scored Estrada to give Alabama State a 5-0 lead.
In the third inning with one out,
Kevin Olmeda singled and Rivera and P.J. Biocic walked to load the bases. Estrada cleared the bases with a double, scoring all three runners for an 8-0 lead.
P.J. Biocic's three-run homer in the fifth, and a solo home run by Rios in the sixth completed the scoring for Alabama State.
The Hornets will play at South Alabama Tuesday at 6 p.m., with a live radio broadcast on bamastatesports.com.
