For the second time this season the Hornets are looking to break a two-game losing streak, the only difference this time it comes during conference play.  In order to get back on the winning track the Hornets will have to win a game on the road as ASU will end regular season play with two road games.

The first of those two games comes Thursday, March 5 when they play the Tigers of Grambling at 7:30 p.m.  The game can be heard live on bamastatesports.com and will originate from the Hobdy Assembly Center on Grambling's campus.

While the Hornets still have an outside chance to gain a co-championship of the regular season title, ASU is looking to gain the second seed in the upcoming Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament which begins Tuesday, March 10 in Houston.

If ASU wins both of their remaining games they will capture the #2 seed and will play the #7 seed Wednesday, March 11 at 2:30 p.m.

The Hornets (16-9/12-4 SWAC) have been fairly strong on the road in conference play this season winning six of its seven road contests.  All of the wins have been close with an average winning margin of 4.3 points.  The lone road loss came at Texas Southern (80-65).

"When you go on the road in this conference, like everywhere else, it is going to be a battle," Head Coach Lewis Jackson said.  "We have been fortunate to win some road games, but we also know we could have lost those games as easily as we won them."

Grambling (2-24/0-16 SWAC) has struggled to pick up wins this season, but that does not mean they have not been in games.  They have had several of their games go down to the final few seconds and that was never more evident than in their last game, a four point road loss at Mississippi Valley State.

"We know Grambling is going to be a tough game for us," Jackson said.  "Their record does not indicate how well they have played in most of their games this season.  When you look at them on tape you see just how good they are playing.  A break here or a break there and they have several conference wins this season.  We know we will have to bring our "A" game when we play them."

The Tigers have one of the top players in the conference in senior A'Torri Shine.  He is averaging over 13 points per game.  Junior Mark Gray is a player the Hornets have their eye out on as well.  He is averaging over 10 points per game and leads GSU in rebounding (5.9), field goal percentage (.433), three point field goal percentage (.389) and free throw percentage (.754).

Gray had a double-double against the Hornets earlier in the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Shine scored 11.

The Hornets won that game 71-50 back on Jan. 3 to open SWAC play.  ASU shot 47 percent from the field with Maurice Strong leading a trio of Hornets in double digits with 14 points.  Luther Page scored 12 and Wendell Lewis added 11 as ASU worked their inside game against the Tigers.

Jamel Waters (13.5) and DeMarcus Robinson (10.2) continue to lead the offensive charges for ASU, but freshman Steve Rogers had Hornet fans aglow following his 26-point outburst against Prairie View.  The Montgomery native has led the conference all season in three point percentage and did nothing to hurt that with his five-for-seven performance on three point field goals against PVAMU.  He is now shooting .518 on his three point shots.

Following the Hornets game at Grambling, the regular season will end Saturday, March 7 with a 5 p.m. tip at Jackson State.
