DURHAM, NC  – The Alabama State volleyball team received big contributions across the board as the Lady Hornets picked up a road win at North Carolina Central 3-1 (31-33, 25-13, 25-18, 25-23) on Thursday night.
Five ASU players totaled double digits in kills and two others put forth a double-double performance in what was a season-best performance for team kills (60) and team hitting percentage (.343).Â
Myla Marshall had a team-high 13 kills,
Kimeko Bennett followed with a career-best 12 kills,
Amber Bennett added 11 kills while
Rachel Smith and
Lorena Rosario each had 10 kills apiece.
A. Bennett also tied a career high with seven assisted blocks in a match and finished with 10 total blocks to complete the double-double.Â
Smith tallied 10 digs to also complete the double-double.Â
Freshman setters
Kori Kutsch and
Riley MacDonald also each set new high-water marks for the most assists in a match.
Kutsch had a team-best 23 assists while MacDonald, who is the reigning SWAC Newcomer of the Week, added 19 assists for the Lady Hornets.Â
ASU (2-5) also did a nice job behind the serving line as the team picked up seven aces.Â
MacDonald had three, Smith added two while Kutsch and
Scout Wonsang each tallied one apiece.
The Lady Hornets are back in action on Friday at 6 p.m. at North Carolina A&T.Â
