JACKSONVILLE, ALA.  – The Alabama State women's soccer team has been stricken with lulls in matches where the team allows goals in bunches during a short period of time.
On Sunday, that was the case as ASU allowed three goals within a 10-minute span to fall behind early and eventually lost 7-0 to Jacksonville State in a nonconference match at the JSU Soccer Field.
Briana Boutziovis scored goals in the 22
nd and 48
th minute, Kelsey Bright lofted a high shot for a goal from 25 yards out and added two assists to lead the Gamecocks (3-4).
Madison Carruthers had a game-high three assists.Â
Alabama State showed good spirited energy in the opening 15 minutes of play, controlling possession and putting some pressure on the Gamecocks' defense, but were unable to score.Â
An area where the Lady Hornets have had very few opportunities this season has been scoring chances from corner kicks.
The team entered with only seven corner kicks through their first six matches, but had a season-high four corners on Sunday.
Junior forward
Aaliyah Lewis took a team-high four shots including three on target while
Krista Ozimy and
Kile Powell each took one shot on goal.Â
However, the Gamecocks turned more assertive and began to control possession from around the 20
th minute forward.Â
Jacksonville State held a 16-5 shots on goal advantage against the Lady Hornets (0-6-1).
