The Alabama State volleyball team's 11 match winning streak came to a halt on Wednesday evening as the Lady Hornets fell to UAB, 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 26-24) at Lockhart Gym.  With the loss ASU drops to 12-8 overall.
 
After dropping the opening set, 25-22, ASU came back strong in the second stanza and built a 10-7 advantage on two back to back kills by junior Briana Dorsey.  However, UAB took a six-point run of its own to tie the game 13-13 before scoring four of the next six points to take a solid lead.  ASU kept the set within reach at 20-19, but the Blazers ripped off six points to capture a 2-0 lead in the match with a 25-19 win in set two.
 
Alabama State registered kills on its first six points in the third set jumping out to a whopping 10-3 lead, but was not able to maintain this advantage throughout the set.  The Blazers took a balanced attack to close out the match with a 26-24 victory.
 
For the Lady Hornets, freshman Bayle Bennett led the way with a team high of 12 kills to go along with five digs and one block assist.  Junior Ni'yesha Brown finished with eight kills, while Dorsey had seven kills with no errors on 14 attacks hitting for .500.
 
Setter of the week sophomore Kori Kutsch tallied 17 assists to lead the team, while junior Justus Tuiolosega also got a chance to run the ASU offense as she handed out 16 assists.
 
Defensively, senior Jamie Coleman made it her ninth consecutive match with double-digit digs as she finished with 21 saves.  Coleman had a game high of 19 digs with three assists.
 
Alabama State will return to action on Friday evening when the team hosts Arkansas Pine Bluff, for a 7 p.m. contest and take on Grambling State Saturday for a 5 p.m. set.
