Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

N. Brown Leads Volleyball to Victory Against the Prairie View Panthers

One day after the Alabama State volleyball team picked up its seventh straight conference victory of the season, the Lady Hornets passed by Prairie View to earn their 10th straight win (25-18, 25-14, 25-16) on Tuesday night at the William J. Nicks Building in Prairie View, Texas.  For a second night the charge was led by junior Ni'yesha Brown who had a game high for ASU (11-7, 8-0 SWAC) leaving the Panthers (5-12, 4-3 SWAC) with its third conference loss thus far.

Prairie View had no answers for N. Brown who stood out all match from her outside position.  Brown finished Tuesday's match with 15 kills and a .565 hitting percentage committing just two errors in 23 total swings.  N. Brown also chipped in defensively with two blocks and one dig.

"Ni'yesha had another outstanding night by hitting well.  She brought a lot of energy to the court," said head coach Penny Lucas White.  "Tonight we didn't start off as fast as I had liked, but we got the job done.  I think that the girls were patient and let the game come to them and we were able to pull it out."

Senior Jamie Coleman finished with 14 digs to lead the team, while freshman Bayle Bennett added seven scoops.  Justus Tuiolosega posted six digs and had a match high of 17 assists.

The Lady Hornets held the Panthers to only a -.31 hitting percentage, and their best hitter Taylor Goudeau to eight kills on 26 attempts and eight errors.

After having four matches over the last five days the Lady Hornets will take this weekend off and then set their sights on state rival Alabama A&M (5-15, 4-3 SWAC) on Saturday, October 15 for "Dig Pink Day".  The game is an earlier morning match scheduled for 10 a.m.

"To have played four matches in five days and come out victorious says a lot about the potential the team possess," Lucas White said.  "We need this bye week in order to catch up in class and rest their bodies a little as we prepare for our next match."

Volleyball is asking for all who are survivors, family, staff, students and friends to come support them as they face the Bulldogs.
