KENNER, La. – The Alabama State women's bowling team went up against some of the top-ranked bowling programs in the county and came away with a sixth place finish out of 11 competing teams in the three-day event All-State Sugar Bowl Collegiate Invitational hosted by Tulane University.Â

The Lady Hornets (25-25) ran a record of 6-7 during the event including 1-2 on the final day Sunday in a best four-out-of-seven baker format.

After leading 2-1 against Valparaiso, ASU dropped their first match 4-2.

Alabama State responded with a 4-1 victory against UAB before facing Valparaiso again and losing 4-1.Â

The Lady Hornets totaled 13,349 total pins for a 185.4 team average.Â

"Youth and inexperience let us down today," said Alabama State head bowling coachÂ
Andrew Chatmon.
 Â
"We have some areas for improvement. It was not a good day. But, overall, it was a huge improvement from last week's tournament. If we can keep improving each weekend—by the time SWAC rolls around—we should hit our stride. They are gaining valuable experience in these tournaments."Â

Rebecca Hresko was the top bowler for Alabama State as she finished 14
th overall among individuals, averaging a 209.3 through six games.Â

Gabrielle Hosein was 18
th with a 200 average through six games.Â

"They did extremely well this tournament and I'm proud of them and the whole team," Chatmon added.

The Lady Hornets get an extended break before returning to the lanes on Jan. 13-15 at Arkansas State in the Mid-Winter Classic.Â
