Tennis Teams Back in Action

MONTGOMERY – It has been two weeks since the Alabama State University tennis teams have been in action, but that changes over the next few days as both teams will be back on the courts.

The Hornets (6-7) will host Mercer Sunday April 3 at 1 p.m.  These two teams have had their matches cancelled and rescheduled a few times, and hope the move to the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Complex will be the last time they have to reschedule.

The Mercer Bears come into Montgomery sporting a 7-12 overall record and have won four of their past five matches.  It will also be the final home match of the season for the Hornets.

The Lady Hornets (13-6) conclude their regular season with a non-conference match at Chattanooga Tuesday, April 5.  The match is a rescheduled match from an earlier postponement and is set to begin at 1 p.m.

Like the Lady Hornets, the Lady Mocs are having a standout season and enters the match with a 10-6 record.  They are winners of five of their last seven matches.

"We are getting closer to the conference tournament and I am glad we are able to get these matches in," Head Coach Anuk Christiansz said.  It is hard to go a couple of weeks without playing and then step into the tournament and try to get back into match competition."

"Another good thing about these matches is the strong competition we are going to face.  We have played a challenging schedule this season and once again these two teams will help us here at the end of the season become more prepared for the SWAC Tournament."
