MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The Alabama State University volleyball team swept their two matches on the opening day of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Roundup Friday at Lockhart Gymnasium.

Alabama State (18-9, 11-0 SWAC) started the day with a 3-0 (25-17,25-12,25-18) victory over Southern University behind 14 kills from
Krysta Medearis. She finished the match hitting .520 with just one error. Although she was the lone player in double figure kills,
Briana Dorsey connected for nine kills with just one error to hit .571. With her performance in the opener, Dorsey went over 1,000 career points for the Lady Hornets.

Ni'yesha Brown finished with eight kills and hit .300, and she finished with a double-double as she added 12 digs in the win.

Kori Kutsch finished with 23 assists and
Justus Tuiolosega added 12, while
Asha Daniels posted a match-high 15 digs.

The Lady Hornets ran their consecutive conference winning streak to 32 matches with a 3-0 (25-14,25-15,25-18) victory over Grambling State in the nightcap.

In the finale, Brown led Alabama State with 15 kills and nine digs; while
Bayle' Bennett added 10 kills and eight digs. Dorsey finished with another .500-plus night hitting with seven kills and added four blocks in the win.

Kutsch led Alabama State with a match-high 20 assists and Tuiolosega added 14.

The Lady Hornets return to action Saturday morning against Prairie View A&M at 10 am, before closing the night against Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 7 pm.
