Lady Hornets finish off perfect conference regular season

Alabama State has now won 39 straight matches against conference opponents

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | For the second consecutive season, the Alabama State University volleyball team finished the regular season undefeated as they claimed a 3-0 (25-16,25-17,25-18) victory over Jackson State University in the final home match of the season Monday night.
 
The win stretched the winning streak for Alabama State in conference play to 39 dating back to the 2015 championship game against Jackson State. They are also in the midst of a nine-match winning streak.
 
Sophomore Krysta Medearis led Alabama State (25-9, 18-0 SWAC) with 11 kills on 21 total attempts, with just four errors. She finished the night hitting .333 in the victory. Candace Martin finished the night with 10 kills on 13 total attacks with just two errors, hitting .615 – a career high.
 
Ni'yesha Brown finished with eight kills and six digs in her final home match of the season, giving her 663 career kills and 407 digs. Fellow senior Briana Dorsey finished the night with six kills, four digs and three blocks. She now has 826 kills and 351 blocks – placing her third all-time at the school.
 
Kori Kutsch led Alabama State with 22 assists, while Justus Tuiolosega added 14 in her final home match. Brittany Brown led the Lady Hornets with 15 digs, while Bayle' Bennett added 11.
 
The Lady Hornets finished the night hitting .268 with 41 kills; while holding Jackson State (7-25, 6-11 SWAC) to a .168 hitting percentage and 29 kills.
 
Alexandra Burney led Jackson State with nine kills as no Tiger reached double figure kills.
 
Alabama State returns to action Wednesday on the road at Florida A&M University, before taking a week off for the SWAC Championships on November 17.
