MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Alabama State University men's tennis team looks to get back on track this weekend, traveling to the Peach State to face Kennesaw State and Mercer.
Alabama State (1-5) won their first match of the season over the weekend over Alabama A&M, blanking their in-state rival 4-0 behind three singles victories and a pair in doubles. The Hornets will play their final non-conference tune-up matches against Kennesaw State and Mercer before heading to the SWAC Roundup in Jackson (Miss.) next weekend.
The Hornets are led by
Takura Mlambo in singles play with a 3-1 overall record playing at number one, as he sat out one match this season.
Tomas Fernandez has recorded a .500 record in singles play at 3-3, while
Szabin Pusztay is 2-3 and
Andrej Trajkovski won his only match of the season.
In doubles play, the team of
Ion Efrim and Mlambo is 3-3 at number one doubles; while the team of Fernandez and
Carl-Louis Luckmann is 3-3 at number two doubles.
The Hornets face Kennesaw State on Saturday at 11 am, and then travel to Mercer to play Sunday at 11 am.
