MACON, Ga. – The Alabama State University men's tennis team dropped a heartbreaking 4-3 match to Mercer University on the road Sunday afternoon in non-conference play.
The Hornets jumped on top in the match by winning the doubles point as they picked up wins at number one (
Takura Mlambo and
Ion Efrim) and at number three (
Tomas Fernandez and
Carl-Louis Luckmann), with the match at number three being decided in a tiebreaker at 8-6.
Mercer was able to pick up three wins in singles play, while Alabama State picked up wins at number one and four to tie the match at 3-all. Efrim picked up a win at number one singles when he defeated Sam Philp 6-4, 6-3; while Fernandez defeated Mercer's Fernando Guardia in three sets 2-6, 6-4, 6-0.
The match was decided in the final match of the day as Mercer picked up a straight set at number six.
