JACKSON, Miss. – The Alabama State men's tennis team ended a three-match losing streak with a 4-1 victory over Prairie View A&M University in the opening match of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Roundup hosted by Jackson State University Friday morning.
Alabama State (2-7, 1-0 SWAC) used a pair of victories in doubles to grab the first point of the match over Prairie View A&M. The top team of
Takura Mlambo and
Ion Efrim rolled through PVAMU's Xavier Lawrence and Ulnick Boyogueno, 6-1, to put the Hornets in position to take the doubles point. The point was won when the number three team of
Carl-Louis Luckmann and
Tomas Fernandez recorded a 6-2 victory over PVAMU's Freddy Quintero and Zachary Suico.
Alabama State made short work of their matches at number one and two singles with Mlambo (6-2, 6-3) and Efrim (6-0, 6-3) winning their matches. After Prairie View A&M was able to capture a victory at number three,
Karlo Skvorc stormed back to win his singles match at number five. After dropping the first set 6-2, Skvorc stormed back to win the final two sets 6-0, 6-0 to claim the overall victory.
