ASU seeks second consecutive win vs. MVSU

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Alabama State University men's basketball team will be seeking its second consecutive Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) victory on Monday night when the Hornets play host to Mississippi Valley State at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.

Alabama State (6-16 overall, 4-6 SWAC) rolled past Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday night, while Mississippi Valley State (4-19, 4-6) heads into the game coming off a 68-66 victory over Alabama A&M.

"There are no easy games in this league," Jackson said. "They beat us at their place by a few points and we turned it over a lot. We didn't take care of of the ball like I thought we should have. We've got to a better job of keeping their guards out of the lane and make them take tough jump shots. We are going to go inside, like we do with everybody. Our bigs are going to have to step up play, but I expect another tough ball game come Monday night.

Against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, the Hornets had three players in double figures and held a 36-35 edge on the glass. Alabama State went to the free-throw line 37 times and closed the game out by going 7-of-10 in the final minute.

Reginald Gee led the way offensively with 20 points, including three 3-pointers, four rebounds and one assist. He finished the game going 9-of-12 from the charity stripe. Torloft Thomas added three 3-pointers and 15 points, three rebounds, two steals and one assist.

Against Alabama A&M, Mississippi Valley State shot 45.8 percent (27-of-59) from the floor and 66.7 percent (10-of-15) from the foul line.

Marcus Romain paced the Delta Devils with 21 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and one steal. Tajay Henry added 16 points, 11 boards and one assist, while Isaac Williams finished with 13 points, two assists, one steal and one rebound.

In the first match, the Hornets dropped a 73-70 decision in Itta Bena, Miss, on Jan. 7.
