NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Alabama State University women's bowling team defeated three ranked opponents on Saturday as the Lady Hornets went 4-1 during the second day of the 2017 Columbia Music City Classic, hosted by Vanderbilt University.
Alabama State (55-55) went 1-4 during the opening day, but turned play around during Saturday's round as the Lady Hornets competed in five traditional matches.
ASU began the day with an 827-756 victory over Maryville. The Lady Hornets followed that win with an 880-851 victory over No. 13 Tulane.
Haley Young led the way against Tulane as she rolled a 206, while
Jessica Sawmiller added a 194.
Alabama State dropped its next match, falling to Fairleigh Dickinson, 825-928. But that would be the only loss of the day as the Lady Hornets wrapped up Saturday's action with victories over No. 25 Saint Francis of Brooklyn (947-885) and No. 12 Monmouth (882-811).
Against Saint Francis,
Rebecca Hresko, who averaged a 182.6 during Saturday's play, paced the offense with a 213, while
Miranda Remmel and
Jessica Sawmiller added a 194 and 192, respectively. Against Monmouth, Remmel tossed a 195 to lead the Lady Hornets, while
Ashley Walker had a 191.
Alabama State sits in 27
th after two days of action as the Lady Hornets have tallied 8,527 total pins, with a 170.5 average.
Play concludes Sunday with the format being a Best of the seven matches beginning at 8:30 a.m.
