MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Alabama State University men's tennis team returns to action Friday morning against Southeastern Conference foe, the University of Arkansas. The match is scheduled to start at 10 am at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Complex, and admission is free.
Arkansas (4-5) will be the first team from the SEC to visit Montgomery to face Alabama State (4-7), and the two teams will play a doubleheader with the second match slated to begin at 1 pm.
The Hornets enter the match having won three consecutive matches at last weekend's SWAC Roundup in Jackson (Miss.), dropping just one point in the three matches. Meanwhile, Arkansas enters the match after back-to-back victories at home last Saturday.
Ion Efrim and
Tomas Fernandez lead the Hornets this season, both with 5-4 overall records; however, Efrim is a perfect 3-0 in conference play.
Takura Mlambo is 4-3 overall, while he has won both matches in singles play in conference action.
The doubles team of Efrim and Mlambo is 7-3 overall on the year – including 3-0 in conference play – and are winners of four consecutive match. The number two doubles team of Fernandez and
Carl-Louis Luckmann is 6-3 overall – including 2-0 in conference play – and are winners of five consecutive matches.
The match with the Razorbacks will start a streak of seven consecutive matches for Alabama State at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center.
