MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Alabama State University head football coach
Brian Jenkins announced the hiring of three new coaches to his staff on Monday.
Osita Alaribe, Grady Brown and Ron Hudson will join Jenkins and the Hornets football staff this season.
Osita Alaribe
Alaribe comes to Alabama State as the defensive coordinator from Tennessee State.
"Osita is a bright defensive minded coach," Jenkins said. "His teachings, philosophy and expected style of play should allow us to play championship football."
During eight seasons at Tennessee State, Alaribe was the defensive line and defensive coordinator for the Tigers. In 2013, he guided Tennessee State to a No. 1 national ranking in total defense for eight straight weeks and finished sixth in the nation. The Tigers were ranked No. 1 in every major defensive category in the Ohio Valley Conference, which helped produce a 10-4 and their first playoff appearance since 1999.
In 2012, Alaribe helped develop a Tennessee State defense that ranked first in total defense, only giving up 361.6 yards per game and ranked second in scoring defense, allowing 22.8 points. During that year, he was selected to participate in the Bill Walsh NFL Internship with the Oakland Raiders for their 2012 fall training camp.
During his time at Tennessee State, Alaribe has coached Anthony Bass, an Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year, FCS All-American and First Team All-OVC selection.
Grady Brown
Brown joins returns to the Alabama State coaching staff from Birmingham Southern.
"Grady Brown is a coaching technician," Jenkins said. "He is very thorough and detailed. With him joining our program we should be able to continue our high level play I the secondary."
Brown spent the early part of his coaching career at Alabama State, before moving on to Texas Southern. He has had stops at Southern Miss, LSU, Alabama A&M and South Carolina.
Prior to his time in Columbia (S.C.), Brown spent two seasons as the Southern Miss as the cornerbacks coach. During the 2011 campaign, Southern Miss was No. 7 nationally in pass efficiency defense and set an NCAA record for interceptions returned for touchdowns with eight.
Brown came to Southern Miss after spending a year and a half working in the strength and conditioning area and assisting as defensive intern at LSU.
In his first stint at Alabama State, Brown was the secondary coach.
Hudson is joining the Hornet coaching staff after serving as the offensive line coach at Nevada.
Rob Hudson
"Rob brings a great amount of experience to our program and coaching staff," Jenkins said. "His coaching style and knowledge of the game will only help elevate our coaching staff and program."
For the past three years, Hudson ran the offensive line at Nevada, where the Wolf Pack averaged over 200 yards rushing per a game in 2014. His young line in 2014 lifted Nevada to a 408-yard rushing game against UNLV to close out the regular season and help Nevada post a 7-6 record and a trip to the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl.
During the 2015 season, the Wolf Pack ranked fifth in the Mountain West and 38
th in the nation, averaging over 205 yards per game. Hudson's line allowed just 20 quarterback sacks, which was the third-fewest sacks allowed in conference play.
Prior to Nevada, Hudson was the Run Game Coordinator/Offensive Line coach at UMass. He also had stops at New Mexico, Louisiana-Lafayette, Texas A&M-Kingsville, UTEP, Bowling Green, Southwest Missouri, Kent State, Lenoir Rhyne, The Citadel, Urbana and Illinois State.
