Sixteen Qualify for Outdoor Track and Field East Regionals

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Eight women and eight men, qualified in seven different events for the NCAA East Regionals during the 2017 Outdoor season, taking place May 25-27 in Lexington, Kentucky hosted by the University of Kentucky. 

"We are excited to have qualified in individual and relay events for the NCAA East Region," said head coach Ritchie Beene. "This is the most we've qualified in a while for both programs. It is our program expectation to compete post season each year and advance to the national championship."

On the women's side senior Monica Howard qualified in the 100m hurdles (13.48), while the Southwestern Athletic Conference's (SWAC) fastest female, rookie Kaila Lewis qualified in the 100 (11.58) and 200m (23.69). Additionally, the women's 4x100m relay team of Lewis, Desiree Horn, Howard and Charminiqu Hackney qualified with a qualifying time of 45.06.

For the men, Josh Davis (20.71) and Devin O'Neal (20.88) both qualified in the men's 200m while the men's 4x100 team of Davis, Justin Davis, O'Neal and Norris Spike qualified with a 40.01 time. On the field, Jamie Brown used a 7.53 meter jump in the long jump to round out the Hornet qualifiers.
